WORLD WAR II HISTORY

Palau presents a multitude of recreational alternatives, and certainly eco-tourism and sports activities are favorites. For WW II memorabilia, the hills of Peliliu Island are a must to explore, but be careful; some of the ammunition may still be live. Additionally, many of the various battle sites feature intriguing, bat-filled caves.

To the south, Angaur Island makes available a wide variety of WW II remnants scattered all across the Island. Past the Santa Maria statue, deeper in the jungle, an old phosphate mine is a fun exploration particularly during times of the year when the mine is full of playful monkeys.
